[INTRODUCTION]

KC:  Welcome to The Business of Life Podcast. My name is Keith Callahan, your host. Today, I want to talk to you about the principle of getting the boulder over the hill.

This is a principle that can be applied to anything in your life. I’m going to give you an example of where I teach it in my business. But it’s also – it could be – it’s about trying to get something accomplished, trying to make a change. So if you’re starting a new business and you’re trying to get the business up and running, if you’re picking up an instrument for the first time and you’re trying to learn how to play that instrument, if you are looking to make a change to any habit in your life, there’s this principle of getting the boulder over the hill. Here’s how it works.

In the beginning of whatever you’re doing, you have to do this massive amount of work. So I teach this to the people that I work with in my business, Beachbody and it goes like this. So like when you first get started, when you first get started in any business, there is a massive amount of work in the beginning. You’re doing more work in the beginning than what you feel like you’re getting rewarded for.

It’s just like pushing a boulder up a hill, up a hill. Not like pushing a boulder flat. Like, you’re literally pushing it up a hill. What happens when you’re pushing a boulder up a hill, like you may get it two or three feet, and then you have to stop and you have to wait there for a second. Then you have to – because you don’t want that boulder to fall back down, right? Because if that boulder falls back down, now you got to start from the bottom. Here’s what happens to a lot of people when they start a business or they’re looking to change a habit or they’re looking – like we’re looking to lose weight. We’re looking to increase our eating habit, something like that, right?

We get the boulder going and then we think that we can just let it go for a few days. So we start a new workout routine. We work out for two or three weeks and then we think that we can take a couple of days off. What happens with that is the boulder rolls back down to the bottom of the hill and it’s almost like you got to start over again because it’s hard to start over, especially the longer you take time off.

Like if you worked out for three weeks and then you took three weeks off, you’re at the bottom of the hill again. It’s not like the boulder stays where you’re at. Same thing in your business. If you’re getting a business started and you really push that or if – whatever it is that you’re doing.

If you’re looking to improve a habit, eating habits. If you’re looking to quit smoking or if you have any type of addictions or you have any type of negative behaviors that you’re trying to change, you have to put in all-out effort until the boulder gets over the hill.

You know when the boulder is over the hill because there’s a sign of relief. There’s a sign of – it’s a little bit easier.

Here’s one thing to know though. The top of the hill becomes a plateau. So it’s just easier to roll the boulder. But you still have to roll it. But you can take a little break and the boulder is still going to be there. It’s not going to fall back down. Then you can roll it a little bit more and take a little break. This works for anything in life.

So anytime you’re looking to make change, there is an enormous amount of effort that has to be put in, in the beginning, until that boulder gets over the top of the hill. The boulder gets over the top of the mountain onto that plateau.

So with whatever you’re doing in your life, it’s just how it works. So many of us, we quit halfway through or even worse than quitting – quitting isn’t necessarily bad, if it’s the right decision. Here’s the one that just sucks the life out of people. It’s the stopping and starting, stopping and starting, because you’re dealing with this indecision. It’s just giving you this failure mentality. It didn’t work again, it didn’t work again. Oh, I’m going to try it. But I’m not going to do it until I get the boulder over the hill. If you’re going to do something, get the boulder over the hill for long term sustaining change in your life.

Does that make sense? All right. Have a beautiful, beautiful day. See you on the next episode. Peace!

KC: Hey, Keith here, and today I have a free gift for you. Listen this free gift is a list of the 12 most influential books that I’ve ever read. These are the books that have helped me to create the mindset, learn the philosophies, learn the skills to really create this big, beautiful, life that we’re living now.

I read a crazy amount of books, I really do. I’ve probably read thousands of books and these are the top 12 books that – they’re the ones that I go to, they’re the ones that I work with over, and over, and over again. They are highlighted, outlined, dog-eared. And I put this list together for you because I want it to be a shortcut.

I don’t want you to have to – you don’t have to go out and read the thousands and thousands of books. These are the 12 that I highly recommend. I have a detailed review for each book, explaining why I recommend them, why I like them, when I worked with them in my life, what part of my life they helped me to improve.

[SPONSOR MESSAGE]

KC: Today’s episode is brought to you by our sister podcast, All About Beachbody Coaching. So All About Beachbody Coaching really allows us to do this podcast without having all those annoying commercials in the beginning for you. So All About Beachbody Coaching, the Beachbody business that Amy and I run, actually funds this podcast.

So yes, it does cost money to run this podcast, we do not charge you anything, we don’t throw in commercials or anything like that, it really is, it’s funded by our business and by our other podcast, All About Beachbody Coaching. And for me, I’m just eternally grateful for this opportunity because it’s allowed me to really create the life that I love to live.

It’s given me the opportunity to do what I want, when I want, with who I want, and even deeper than that, it’s allowed me to help others to create the same for themselves. It’s allowed me to help hundreds of other people become part time or full time Beachbody coaches, to leave that corporate 9 to 5 job and create passive income in their lives.

And really there’s nothing like that. It’s cool when you have success, it’s so much more rewarding when you help others. So I mention this or a few reasons, the first reason is, that’s actually the way that I work with people and mentor people. I don’t do anything outside of Beachbody coaching because I know that it’s such a powerful life changing tool.

So if you’re curious about working with me, interested in working one-on-one, interested in creating the type of life that you wanna live, I suggest swinging over there. The other reason is, even if somebody’s just curious, like you’ve heard about Beachbody, you know there’s a lot of Beachbody coaches out there. Maybe some of them you get a little annoyed with.

It really dives into what this business is really about, which is life transformation. So if you’re just curious, swing over there. And then the other piece is, if you’re really considering becoming a Beachbody coach, I highly, highly recommend you listen to that first.

Alright, much love guys. Again, that is the All About Beachbody Coaching Podcast, our sister podcast.

ANNOUNCER: Thank you for listening to the Business of Life Podcast. Apply what you learned today and you’ll be one step closer to creating the life you love to live.
