[00:00:12] KC: Welcome to the Business of Life Podcast. My name is Keith Callahan, your host and welcome to today’s episode of Mindset Monday. We’ve got a massively healing powerful message to talk about today. So what I want to talk about is noting and what I mean by noting, there’s a meditation technique – and don’t worry, we’re not going to get into meditation and talk about meditation. But I need to describe this technique to you to know how to use this in your life. So what noting is in meditation is you sit and as thoughts arise, you just simply note them. You note them as thinking, you note them as feeling, you note it as whatever it is. You note.

So sometimes for me, if I’m doing some deep work or I have something that to me seems really stressful, but in all honesty it’s not really a big deal, but my mind makes it a big deal. So when something like that happens, the way that I deal with it and it’s just such a powerful technique, and it’s so simple. Is I use the noting technique but I use it a little differently. I simply focus on my feelings and then I write them down. So I’m going to be a little vulnerable here, for me it might look something like this: it might be like, “Fear, panic, run, hide, escape.” And then you notice that there’s a little pause there.

Then it might be like, “Run, hide, fear, relief. Fear, run, sad, fear, relief. Tired, angry, fear, relief, relief, gratitude.” It’s kind of how it works. So wanted to share that. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer than that. That wasn’t me actually going through that. That was just sort of recalling how something might go for me, but what happens is whenever I do that I’ll always make a quick prayer first and just for the help and protection of god. Because sometimes when we’re going through these emotions, I dunno? For me, I don’t want to face the emotions. I don’t want to face the feelings, but I know that the second I do, they’ll pass.

So all the negative things that we hold, the negative habits, the patterns, the whatever it is that we hold, it’s from not fully expressing and fully feeling the emotions that are coming through us. So that’s one way to do it. It’s one way to do it. I make a quick prayer before I do it, and then just start writing. And again, write – like feel. What are you feeling in your body? And write that. Don’t get too caught up in what’s going on in your head. Sometimes I might write one or two things that I’m thinking, but really it’s what I’m feeling and the feeling will flow through you by doing that and you’ll get to that – you’ll return to that place of peace, of calmness, of equanimity.
