EP119 Commit to Principles and Not “How Tos”
In this episode, I explain the difference between living based on principles that you’ve committed to instead of getting bogged down by all the “how tos” that are out there.
KC: Welcome to The Business of Life Podcast. My name is Keith Callahan, your host.
Excited to be here with you today. I’m feeling good today. I’m fired up, having a good day, and life is just good. It really is. Sometimes there are struggles. But I’m having a really good day. I hope you’re having a good day out there too and today, I want to talk to you about putting principles in your life over the how-tos and let me just explain what I mean by that.
A lot of times, there’s – so here’s an easy way to look at it. Like with health and fitness and wellness. There’s like this new diet. There’s the Zone diet, the this diet, the that diet, the new diet and so many times, people are focused in on the next diet, the next diet. Let me try this one. Let me try that one. Let me do this one. Let me do that one.
That would be like how-tos, right? Like, there are a million different how-tos in dieting. A principle would be to eat until you’re full and not anymore and eat whole, clean, single-ingredient foods.
That’s a principle that you can carry with you through your whole life. It’s a principle. So principles over how-tos. Another thing in my life, I have the principle of putting spiritual things first. What does that mean? It means exactly that. Like, to put the spiritual things in my life before everything else and the rest of life is going to take care of itself.
There are a million different how-tos, right? Like, we can think about a million different spiritual paths. We can think about a million ways to structure our spiritual life. We can think about – like all these different how-tos and a lot of times, we can get caught up in the how-tos instead of just focusing on the simple principle.
Put spiritual things first and the how-tos will take care of themselves. Another principle when my wife and I – so this is another principle in my life. When my wife and I got married, the theme that we had for ourselves was “two become one”. It’s something that came into us in prayer and we’ve walked with that for six years now and what that meant was, was – it was two lives joining to form one. We were joining and now one life was the family. It was the unity. It was the core. It was who we were and what we wanted to create.
What became of that is that we put the wants, needs and desires of the one, of the family, of the unit, of the core first. That’s a principle. There are a million different ways you can say, “How do you put the family first?” Like, what can we do to put the family first? But if you have the principle, “Are we putting the family first in all things when we make decisions?” versus selfish decisions, right?
If I was out and having a drink or two at a bar and I was having a good time and I kind of wanted to stay. But I knew if I stayed, I would be out late and I might not feel the best in the morning and I’m not going to be the best husband and I’m not going to be the best father, I wouldn’t be putting the family first.
So when we have that principle of putting the family first before ourselves, before our own wants, needs and desires, it’s a principle. It’s an easy principle to live by. Another one of mine is starting what I finish and having that principle and listen, I’m not perfect with these. I strive for perfection, but I’m not perfect with it.
But having that principle of finishing what you start, I’m very careful what I commit to and very careful what I say yes to and very careful what I’m going to begin because I have that commitment. I have that principle that if I’m going to start something, I’m going to finish it.
I just wanted to share that with you today. Think about your life. Are you living a principle-based life or are you just jumping from all these different how-tos, the next quick fix, the next this, the next that? When you focus and you have a centered principle-based core, principle-based roots in your life, it makes your decisions and it makes everything you do in life so much simpler, because it goes back to, “Is this aligned with my values? Is this aligned with my principles? Is this aligned with the type of human being that I’ve committed to myself to becoming and to being and to acting like?”
All right. Have a beautiful, beautiful day. See you on the next episode. Peace!
KC: Hey, Keith here, and today I have a free gift for you. Listen this free gift is a list of the 12 most influential books that I’ve ever read. These are the books that have helped me to create the mindset, learn the philosophies, learn the skills to really create this big, beautiful, life that we’re living now.
I read a crazy amount of books, I really do. I’ve probably read thousands of books and these are the top 12 books that – they’re the ones that I go to, they’re the ones that I work with over, and over, and over again. They are highlighted, outlined, dog-eared. And I put this list together for you because I want it to be a shortcut.
I don’t want you to have to – you don’t have to go out and read the thousands and thousands of books. These are the 12 that I highly recommend. I have a detailed review for each book, explaining why I recommend them, why I like them, when I worked with them in my life, what part of my life they helped me to improve.
So I put this together for you, and made it super each for you to get this list. All you have to do is send a text to the number 33444 and then in the body of that text, type in “12books” with no space. So that’s the number “12books”. Again, send the text message to the number, address it to 33444 and then type in “12books” as the message and just send that. And that’ll get you setup to receive those top 12 most influential books that have had the biggest impact on my life.
KC: Today’s episode is brought to you by our sister podcast, All About Beachbody Coaching. So All About Beachbody Coaching really allows us to do this podcast without having all those annoying commercials in the beginning for you. So All About Beachbody Coaching, the Beachbody business that Amy and I run, actually funds this podcast.
So yes, it does cost money to run this podcast, we do not charge you anything, we don’t throw in commercials or anything like that, it really is, it’s funded by our business and by our other podcast, All About Beachbody Coaching. And for me, I’m just eternally grateful for this opportunity because it’s allowed me to really create the life that I love to live.
It’s given me the opportunity to do what I want, when I want, with who I want, and even deeper than that, it’s allowed me to help others to create the same for themselves. It’s allowed me to help hundreds of other people become part time or full time Beachbody coaches, to leave that corporate 9 to 5 job and create passive income in their lives.
And really there’s nothing like that. It’s cool when you have success, it’s so much more rewarding when you help others. So I mention this or a few reasons, the first reason is, that’s actually the way that I work with people and mentor people. I don’t do anything outside of Beachbody coaching because I know that it’s such a powerful life changing tool.
So if you’re curious about working with me, interested in working one-on-one, interested in creating the type of life that you wanna live, I suggest swinging over there. The other reason is, even if somebody’s just curious, like you’ve heard about Beachbody, you know there’s a lot of Beachbody coaches out there. Maybe some of them you get a little annoyed with.
It really dives into what this business is really about, which is life transformation. So if you’re just curious, swing over there. And then the other piece is, if you’re really considering becoming a Beachbody coach, I highly, highly recommend you listen to that first.
Alright, much love guys. Again, that is the All About Beachbody Coaching Podcast, our sister podcast.
ANNOUNCER: Thank you for listening to the Business of Life Podcast. Apply what you learned today and you’ll be one step closer to creating the life you love to live.
